Welcome to Clunes

Clunes has the distinction of being the first 'official' place gold was discovered in Victoria, in 1851. As a result, the town flourished, and its charm today, comes from the fact that it has barely changed.

Fraser Street is wide, and the buildings original, creating a town centre which is authentic, and oh so photogenic.  Little wonder that Clunes has continues to be used as a backdrop for film and television. It’s had feature roles in ‘Mad Max,’ ‘Ned Kelly,’ the remake of ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock,’ and most recently, ‘Bloom.’

From Lightshift, it's a 5 minute stroll in to town, where there are cafes to suit whatever mood you're in, and a range of shops, galleries and a museum.  Moving on from the main street, you'll discover old cottages, buildings, rambling gardens, historical Queen's park and more.

Clunes is around 1.5 hours drive from Melbourne, and once you've arrived, you're perfectly positioned to explore the Goldfields and Spa Region.  It's only 12 minutes to Creswick, 25 minutes to Ballarat, and 40 minutes to Daylesford.
